Warm and Cool Leaves

Students studied a simplified version of warm and cool colors: red, orange, yellow and pink for warm, and green, blue, purple, and magenta for cool colors. Students looked at leaves and copied them onto their papers. They used either a set of warm or cool crayon colors to fill in their leaves in between the veins. The following week students used the opposite set of colors to paint the background. All paint was liquid water color by Sax.

Students used the camera feature in mac books and iPads to help them draw self portraits.

Second grade warm cool leaves

Second graders learned warm and cool colors. They drew maple leaves and filled in with warm colors for the foreground and cool for the background using watercolor.

Students used construction paper to create their giant pencils. We practiced gluing, as well as different types of lines. The students then colored their pencils with crayon.

2nd grade treasure chests done another way.

Students at one of my schools had used chalk pastels to create their treasure chests, and students at my other school learned how to shade with pencil to create theirs. We started with a value scale and then colored our papers after drawing the treasure chest and details. Students used glitter to create the treasure. I love the contrast between the glitter and the pencil drawings!

Second grade learned about forms (3D shapes). They drew and colored treasure chests and backgrounds with chalk pastel. The following week the students added glitter and sequens to make their treasure.

Students drew their apples on styrofoam and printed with red, yellow, and blue!

liquid watercolor + spray bottle = amazingly fun splatter art!!!

I bought these spray bottles from the dollar store. We will be using them today in the fourth grade paper weaving projects, but I'm sure I'll find a bunch more uses for them!

rubberband brushes

I made twenty four of these cool rubber band brushes over the weekend. It was an inexpensive project, you can find directions here.

They make awesome texture and they are pretty durable. I remember using a rubber band brush as a child in art class!

A lot of art teachers create sketch book for their students. I'll probably be using something similar with my art club members. I found some simple book binding steps online!

Folk art

I purchased directions and hand outs from www.deepspacesparkle.com.  Students learned how to draw a city and make their picture look like it has depth.
