Kindergarten/1st grade marbling

We used these for our holiday cards. I bought large roasting bins. Kids put their paper on the bottom of the bit and then dipped marbles into tempera paint and set them on top of the paper. Then they picked up the bin and tilted it until the marbles rolled, leaving a paint trail. The following week I gave them stamps and crayons to finish their cards. I was able to work in a writing component by having the children fill out their cards! Warning- SUPER MESSY!!!

We draw one shape and one line at a time until we have our animals and farm drawn. I leave plenty of room for children to draw their own detail!

We used shaving cream mixed with glue and liquid watercolor for the ice cream. The best way to apply it is with fingers!

We used oil pastel on black paper.

We started with a directed line drawing of a castle. Students the painted with liquid watercolor. It was the first time the kindergarteners have used all of the watercolor paints at once, so I emphasized rinsing brushes after finishing each color.

Kindergarten students have been busy studying portraiture in the art room. As a warm up, Kinders took turns 'modeling' for each other while other Kinders drew their portraits!

Students then chose paper that looked like their skin color (or looked not all all like their skin color, whatever they preferred). Students drew their faces and colored their hair.
Students then drew their shirt using AB patterns.

Kindergarten Fishbowls

We looked at pictures of aquariums to draw our fish bowls. We added rocks, plants, and fish. After we colored, we used liquid watercolor paint to paint our water blue.

I bought these spray bottles from the dollar store. We will be using them today in the fourth grade paper weaving projects, but I'm sure I'll find a bunch more uses for them!

Kindergarten learned to draw zig zag, curly and straight lines. We used a stencil to trace the three pumpkins, and mixed primary colors to paint an orange, green, and purple pumpkin!

rubberband brushes

I made twenty four of these cool rubber band brushes over the weekend. It was an inexpensive project, you can find directions here.

They make awesome texture and they are pretty durable. I remember using a rubber band brush as a child in art class!

A lot of art teachers create sketch book for their students. I'll probably be using something similar with my art club members. I found some simple book binding steps online!

Wildflowers

Kindergarten studied Monet's paintings of wildflowers. We noticed that the flowers had a lot of color but not much detail. We used green construction paper crayons to draw stems and then tapped on some flowers with tempera paint mixed with white. To keep the colors from mixing, each table got one color at a time.

We drew our tiger with crayon and then traced our lines with black paint. White paint applied with Q-Tips adds details.
