third grade snowflakes

We made paper snowflakes. We added hooks from the craft store and lots of sequins!  I strung up some yarn across the classroom to hang them to dry.

kindergarten portraits

Kindergarten students have been busy studying portraiture in the art room. As a warm up, Kinders took turns 'modeling' for each other while other Kinders drew their portraits!

Students then chose paper that looked like their skin color (or looked not all all like their skin color, whatever they preferred). Students drew their faces and colored their hair.
Students then drew their shirt using AB patterns.

fourth grade African masks

This lesson was inspired by a colleague at Harrisberg Elementary School in Cabarrus County.

We studied some African masks from the Fang Tribe to learn about how these masks were made and how they were used.

Students used construction paper to cut out the features. We cut slits in the masks to make them round. Students used shredded construction paper for the hair!

Fifth grade pop art giraffes

We drew these giraffes using worksheets I purchased from Deep Space Sparkle.

Students added animal print borders that they drew with permanent marker to add more colors and pattern!

Kindergarten Fishbowls

We looked at pictures of aquariums to draw our fish bowls. We added rocks, plants, and fish. After we colored, we used liquid watercolor paint to paint our water blue.

Fifth Grade Snowy Mountains

Students dyed white paper by scattering tissue paper squares and painting over them with water. The following week, students peeled off the tissue paper to reveal the newly dyed paper beneath! We used this for our sky.

Students used crayon resist to create the snow on the watercolor mountains. Blue watercolor was used for shadows, and large black permanent marker for the trees.
